The Eight Limbs of Yoga Series - 3. ASANA
Time & Location
About The Event
In Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, the eightfold path is called Ashtanga, which literally means "eight limbs".
Laur Bee and Sri Vijay Anand will guide you through eight sessions where you can delve deeper into yogic philosophy and learn how to incorporate Patanjali's teachings into our modern lives.
Session 3. ASANA
Posture.
This is the physical aspect of practising yoga that is used to help focus the mind. This is the aspect that most of us in the west will be familiar with, the physical postures or ASANA, that demand stretching, pulling, bending, flexing and holding poses.
ASANA doesn’t refer to the ability to perform a handstand or deep backbends, but it actually means ‘seat’, specifically the seat you would take for the practice of meditation. The only alignment instruction Patanjali gives for this asana is “sthira sukham asanam”, the posture should be steady and comfortable ‘a posture the practitioner can hold comfortably and motionlessness’.
ASANAS help cleanse, detoxify and prepare the body for mind practices.
During the two hour workshop there will be a one hour ASANA practice based around the traditions behind ASANA and throughout the session we will discuss what Patanjali meant by ASANA and how we can use these practices in our modern lives.
*There will be eight sessions on each of the Eight Limbs, please feel free to join any that attract you, and a discount is offered when booking all eight.
